About Us:
At PDSVISION, we help leading engineering and manufacturing organisations transform how they design, build, and deliver products. As a trusted partner of PTC and ANSYS, we combine expertise in PLM and simulation to solve complex challenges and drive real impact.
We’re a collaborative, people-focused business where curiosity is encouraged, ideas are valued, and development is a priority. You’ll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, learn from experienced colleagues, and build a meaningful career in a supportive, growth-driven environment.
Role Overview
The IT Applications Engineer will work alongside the PLM System Specialist to manage, secure and continually improve mypdscloud, PDSVision UK's hosted PTC Windchill service.
This role suits a security-minded, proactive graduate or IT professional with up to three years' experience who wants to grow their career in enterprise application and infrastructure management. You will work on the health, security and compliance of the platform day to day, taking on preventative work before issues reach customers, and develop hands-on, server-side PTC Windchill skills (not a full consultancy role) along the way.
Key Responsibilities
Platform & Server Management
• Monitor, maintain and administer the mypdscloud estate hosting PTC Windchill, OpenDJ (LDAP), Microsoft SQL Server, ThingWorx, Creo and Creo View Adapters.
• Carry out routine health checks and capacity monitoring (disk, CPU, memory, services, logs, backups), and act on issues before they affect customers.
• Plan and apply Windows Server updates, SQL Server patches and third-party software updates in agreed maintenance windows, with appropriate change control.
• Maintain and test backup, restore and disaster recovery procedures.
Windchill Application Support
• Assist the PLM System Specialist with server-side Windchill work, including installing CPS/SUP updates, applying patches, restarting and validating services, and supporting upgrades.
• Learn and perform routine Windchill administration tasks such as log review, method server and service health checks, and post-patch validation.
• Support the related applications on the platform, including ThingWorx, Creo View Adapters and Creo installations.
• Support the monthly maintenance of Windchill installations for non mypdscloud customers
Identity, Authentication & Integration
• Manage and troubleshoot the integration of Windchill with each customer's Active Directory or own LDAP directory over LDAPS, including certificate management and renewal.
• Administer OpenDJ LDAP instances and support user and group synchronisation issues.
• Support Single Sign-On (SSO) configurations using Microsoft Entra ID and JumpCloud.
Security & Compliance
• Manage endpoint protection and application control using tools such as ThreatLocker and SentinelOne, including policy maintenance, approval requests and alert investigation.
• Run and review vulnerability scans (e.g. Rapid7), prioritise findings, and coordinate remediation across the estate.
• Help keep the platform aligned with Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO 27001 controls, including gathering evidence for audits and certification renewals.
• Apply hardening standards, least-privilege access and secure configuration across servers and applications.
• Identify security risks and improvement opportunities and raise them early.
Service Delivery & Continuous Improvement
• Respond to and resolve support tickets and incidents within agreed service levels, escalating to the PLM System Specialist where appropriate.
• Communicate clearly with customers' IT teams about maintenance, changes and issues.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, server records and standard operating procedures.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks (e.g. PowerShell scripting) and improve the reliability and efficiency of the service.
Essential Skills & Experience
• Degree in Computer Science, IT, Cyber Security, Engineering or a related discipline, or up to three years' equivalent experience in an IT support, infrastructure or systems administration role.
• Good working knowledge of Windows Server administration (services, event logs, IIS, certificates, permissions, updates).
• Understanding of Active Directory, LDAP and authentication concepts.
• Basic understanding of networking: DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls, TLS/SSL certificates and ports.
• A security-minded approach, with an understanding of patching, vulnerability management and endpoint protection.
• A proactive, methodical approach to problem solving, taking ownership of issues through to resolution.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow change and maintenance procedures accurately.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to customers.
• Genuine interest in learning PTC Windchill and the wider PLM landscape, with a willingness to develop server-side Windchill skills.
• Ability to manage priorities across multiple customer environments.
Desirable Skills & Experience
• Hands-on experience with security tools such as ThreatLocker, SentinelOne, Rapid7 InsightVM or other vulnerability scanning platforms (e.g. Tenable/Nessus, Qualys).
• Knowledge or experience of Cyber Essentials Plus and/or ISO 27001, including supporting audits or evidence collection.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration (backups, maintenance plans, permissions).
• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, JumpCloud, or SAML/OIDC-based SSO.
• Exposure to OpenDJ or other LDAP directory services.
• Exposure to DATTO RMM tools
• Exposure to PTC Windchill, ThingWorx, Creo or other PLM/CAD applications.
• PowerShell or other scripting experience for automation.
• Experience in a managed service provider (MSP) or hosted services environment.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft (AZ-900, SC-900, AZ-104)
